The latest introduction from Air Venturi is the Avenger Bullpup 2 PCP air rifle. It’s an improved version of the original Avenger Bullpup from 2021 and – remarkably – maintains the same selling price of $399.99. Well done Air Venturi!

The two improvements are both related to handling and shootability. Firstly, the height of the Picatinny scope rail above the bore has been reduced. In addition, the cocking lever has been moved to a central position.

Otherwise, the new model retains all the features of the original – with the exception of not accepting the high-capacity magazines.

Actually, the long-necked HAM testers did not have an issue with the height of the scope rail. In fact, we added a riser, to increase the eyeline of the scope still further! However we can see that the lower location would be a benefit to many shooters.

The original Avenger Bullpup earned a HAM Gold Award with a score of 91% on test. Air Venturi says that the shooting performance will be unchanged from that model, which is very good to hear.

Also unchanged is the ease of tuning that has distinguished the Avenger family in this price range. The hammer spring and regulator both remain externally-adjustable.

Now for that cocking lever…

Here’s what we wrote in the HAM review of the original Avenger Bullpup:

“Additionally, the position of the cocking lever makes it necessary to remove the Avenger Bullpup air rifle from your shoulder to cock it. This applies to all shooters, right- and left-handed. Really, this is the only aspect of the design that shows evidence of cost-cutting.

Such rear – operate by ear! – cocking levers are a definite “generation one” design for bullpups. The mid-mounted cocking levers featured on more expensive models from other manufacturers revolutionize that aspect of handling. They allow fast follow-up shots without breaking the shooting position.

But – given the Avenger’s price – most buyers will accept this shootability limitation. The HAM Team understands this design decision. A mid-mounted cocking lever would have resulted in a significantly-increased price, damaging the outstanding value proposition for the Avenger Bullpup air rifle. And low price/high performance is exactly what most buyers want!”

Well, Air Venturi has achieved it without increasing the price. The improvement can be seen in this photograph of Air Venturi’s Tyler Patner operating it.

The Air Venturi is the Avenger Bullpup 2 PCP air rifle is available now from Air Venturi dealers including Pyramyd and Airgun Depot.
