The mid-range PCP market is exploding at Pyramyd! Now two versions of the Macavity Arms Agility MA2 air rifle have joined the action at the world’s largest airgun dealer.

The Macavity MA2 joins other recent announcements at Pyramyd including the Umarex Zelos and Gauntlet SL2 models. Then there’s the Reximex Accura and Throne plus the Bullshark from Stoeger Airguns.

All these guns are regulated, magazine-fed PCPs with great specifications and priced in the $400 to $800 range. It’s a great time to be an airgunner!

The Macavity MA2 was first shown at the SHOT and IWA OutdoorClassics shows earlier this year. HAM covered it in our report from IWA in Germany.

The two versions of the Macavity Agility MA2 and the “Standard” and “Long” models. Basically the difference is due to HPA tube capacity and, therefore, length. However here’s a comparison of the differences between these otherwise similar-looking air rifles.

MA2 StandardMA2 Long
Length36.8 Inches41.1 Inches
Weight5.95 Lbs6.39 Lbs
HPA Capacity196 cc267 cc
Max. Muzzle Energy44.25 Ft/Lbs44.25 Ft/Lbs
Shot Count Per Fill3060
Barrel Length18 Inches22 Inches
Regulator Pressure1,885 PSI1,600 PSI

It’s interesting to note how the shorter barrel length is balanced by the higher regulator pressure in the Standard model. That gives the unusual situation where “short” and “long”- barrelled versions of the same gun have the same Muzzle Energy specifications – at least in factory form.

Both Standard and Long models share the same sidelever action. Both are available right now in .25 caliber. .22 and .30 caliber versions will be available soon, Macavity Arms says.

In .25 caliber, both versions of the MA2 have shrouded barrels with 10 grooves and a 1 in 23.4-Inch twist rate. A dedicated airgun-only silencer is also included in the package, along with three magazines (10-shot capacity in .25 caliber).

Gauges for both regulator and fill pressure are located on the left side of the gun.

The HAM Team is delighted to see that Macavity Arms is joining the increasing number of PCP manufacturers having the HPA tube pressure gauge NOT mounted directly on the end of the tube. As you can see, it’s located at the side – a MUCH safer location for the shooter to check how much air remains on board.

The HPA fill pressure is 250 Bar (3,625 PSI).

Macavity Arms is positioning the MA2 squarely as a hunting air rifle. It uses standard AR15-style pistol grip and buttstock assemblies, plus a Picatinny rail for scope mounting.

The price ranges between $419.99 to $459.99 depending on model. Plus there’s a three-year warranty.

It looks as if the MA2 could be a competitive new player in the burgeoning mid-range PCP market.
