Back in 2015, HAM brought you news of a new tool for pellet measurement: the PelletGage. Now there’s a SlugGage and all slug shooters are going to need one!
Jerry Cupples, the inventor and developer of the PelletGage has long been aware of the critical importance of consistent airgun pellet diameters for accurate shooting. So he’s developed and marketed an ever-expanding range of PelletGages.
PelletGages are available in .177 caliber, .22, .25, .30 and .35 calibers. Hard Air Magazine uses them for all our airgun ammo tests. They’ve also become hugely popular with knowledgeable airgunners.
Jerry has also developed a BBGage that HAM is testing at the present time. And now he’s introduced a .22 caliber SlugGage.
Like the Pelletgages, the SlugGage is a simple, yet extremely precise “go, no go” gauge.
It’s manufactured using a diode-pumped fiber optic laser. Intense light is directed by a very fine optical fiber, producing a tiny and well defined cutting beam. The accuracy attainable is as precise as 0.00008 Inches!
It also cuts perfectly round holes.
The new SlugGage has been developed by Jerry specifically for use with slugs. For that reason, the gauging holes are graduated in Inch measurements. Each one is precisely half a Thou larger than the next.
Given what HAM testing is discovering about the precision required at all stages of the process if you want accuracy when shooting slugs, everyone shooting slugs – or who plans to – will need one of these devices!
Sure, you could try to measure slug diameters with calipers or a micrometer, but few of us have the skills necessary to do this successfully and consistently. I don’t for sure…
As with the PelletGages, the SlugGage includes 10 gauging holes. In this case they range in diameters from .2160 to .2205 Inches. That should cover most requirements for “.22 caliber” slug shooters.
You can buy the SlugGage directly from Jerry’s online store at www.pelletgage.com.
