As part of our continuing investment inHard Air Magazine, we have now added SSL Protection for the security of our readers.
This SSL technology automatically creates an encrypted connection between HAM and your browser when you look at the site. All information passing to and from hardairmagazine.com is now scrambled by 2048-bit encryption that’s the strongest on the market and virtually unbreakable by hackers.
Normally, SSL protection is added to websites to protect personal information. Of course, you can read HAM at any time without providing any personal information, so you can probably say that this investment is overkill.
However, if you choose to sign-up for our monthly email subscription, you do provide the minimum information of your name and email address. SSL Protection ensures that this is protected. In addition, HAM does not share even this information with other companies in any way. Again, for your security.
You can see that HAM has SSL protection because you’ll see a padlock icon and HTTPS prefix in your browser bar.
If you want, you can click on the padlock icon to see more information about this SSL protection. This gives technical information about the protection level and validation that it really does actually exist!
But – if you poke around in the detail – you’ll probably say: “Why does the certificate not provide ownership information?”
The answer is that we wanted to do this. However the information included in that field has to be the formal owning company’s name. So, we would have had to display Archer Airguns Inc – the owners of HAM – there. We decided not to do so in case it caused confusion among readers who might be unaware of that connection.
This is probably the same reason that you’ll see even Google’s SSL certificate not provide the company name. In that case, you would have seen “Alphabet” as the company name and not “Google”, causing confusion to some.
And if you want more confirmation of the level the SSL protection applied to HAM, we’re adding the McAfee secure trustmark at the foot of every page. This confirms that McAfee SECURE scans and certifies that our site is safe.
