Today, we’re looking at the HAM Pellet Awards and scores for the comprehensive pellet test reviews published in Hard Air Magazine to date.
Here are the first HAM Pellet Gold Award winners, in alphabetical order. Drum roll, please….
1. Crosman Premier Hollow Point Pellets in .22 caliber.
These well-known and long-established airgun pellets are available just about everywhere airguns are sold. They work well – or better – in a wide variety of different airguns and are many airgunners “go to” pellets. Just look at all the HAM air rifle test reviews to see that they perform well in a wide variety of air rifles and air pistols.
When you look at absolute manufacturing variability, it’s clear that Premier Hollow Points are not in the top tier. They win a HAM Pellet Gold Award because they are amazingly cheap for what they actually deliver. Add this to relatively good variability scores compared to other pellets at similar prices and it’s clear why Crosman Premier Hollow Point pellets make the grade in .22 caliber.
Whether you’re plinking or hunting on a budget, it makes sense to consider Premier Hollow Points.

2. Daystate Sovereign Rangemaster Pellets in .22 Caliber.
These pellets are manufactured specifically for Daystate by JSB in the Czech Republic. Daystate says that they are designed to specifically match their air rifles and HAM does not dispute this.
What we can say is that they attain a HAM Pellet Gold Award because they offer excellent manufacturing quality, with minimal variability, for a very competitive price.
Yes, these Daystate Sovereign Rangemaster pellets are fairly heavy. They’re best suited for powerful PCP air rifles, like those from…. Daystate! But the good consistency means that they are likely to work well in many other PCPs too.
If your air rifle likes these Daystate Rangemasters, they will make an excellent hunting pellet. Airguns of Arizona has them in stock.

3. JSB Exact Premium Diabolo Pellets in .177 Caliber.
OK, lets make it clear right now. These hand-selected, domed pellets gained the highest percentage score of any airgun pellet tested so far by Hard Air Magazine.
Their overall score is no less than 89%. WOW!!! That’s waaay ahead of any other pellet tested so far for manufacturing consistency.
Yes, these pellets have a rather high price. But it’s far from the highest price per .177 caliber pellet in the US market. Combining this price with absolute minimal manufacturing variability, there’s no way they could not reach HAM Pellet Gold Award standard!
Sadly these pellets are only available in .177 caliber. But if you shoot .177 cal. and want pellet consistency, this is the obvious place to start.

4. RWS Meisterkugeln Pistol Pelllets in .177 Caliber.
Here we have a specialist, lightweight wadcutter pellet from this well-known German manufacturer.
In a similar manner to the Crosman Premier Hollow Points, RWS “Meister Pistol” pellets secure a HAM Pellet Gold Award because they combine well-controlled manufacturing variability with a below-average price.
For pellet-firing air pistols and lower-powered air rifles, shooting at paper targets, these RWS pellets are a great choice.
