HAM contributor Pete Shooter has recently started competing in Field Target. And, as there’s lots of gear to move around on the range, he’s put together this Tactical Stroller!
The idea came to Pete when he saw similar carts used by sporting clay shooters. Looking around on the Internet, he was unimpressed with the perceived quality and functionality of the shooting carts he saw. So, with his engineering background, he decided to make his own…
Being a practical sort of guy, Pete felt that – rather than make the complete thing himself – he could use something existing and modify it. He soon found his starting-point in a high quality child’s stroller.
Finding a returned, open box special offer on a suitable stroller at a knock-down price, Pete started planning the conversion. First he worked-out the specification for his Tactical Stroller.
The requirement was to safely carry one PCP air rifle, specifically his Daystate Wolverine, together with his HPA tank and the other accessories essential to Field Target competition.
The basic stroller gave Pete the frame, wheels, brakes and even suspension. He carefully cut off the canopy and attached a couple of ATV gun holders to the handle. One of these supports the butt of his Field Target rifle, the other his shooting sticks.
The muzzle of the rifle is captured perfectly by the plastic top of a paint spray can, carefully located into place.
The “hammock” seat provides perfect support for the HPA tank. The stroller’s side pockets provide ideal storage for essentials such as tins of pellets, Ballistol and bug spray.
Underneath the stroller was a storage net. This is now home for Pete’s Tactical Umbrella, kneeling roll, a folding shooting stool and other similar essentials!
The finishing touch to Pete’s Tactical Stroller was some professionally-applied custom graphics to the sides of the frame, announcing it as the HFT Tactical Stroller.
Although not four wheel drive, Pete’s Tactical Stroller was so easy to move around, even in the snow – as you can see – that it will obviously be a great asset on the Field Target range in rather warmer weather.
I loved it and told Pete that he should go into the Tactical Stroller manufacturing business! But he said no, he’s happy just to share the idea with Hard Air Magazine readers. Maybe it will inspire others to make their own Tactical Strollers.
And, of course, it’s an ideal Winter project…
