The release by Pyramyd Air of their top selling airgun ammo of 2017 also brings a lot of interest!
In 2017, the top selling airgun ammo was .22 caliber pellets, with four out of the top ten positions. .177 caliber and .25 caliber pellets and .177 cal BBs each took two positions.
.22 caliber pellets were the top sellers in 2016 and 2015 also, with four and five places in the list, respectively. Twenty five caliber has held steady each year with two slots in the top ten.

The number of .177 caliber pellet positions fell in 2017 from three in previous years, possibly indicating reduced demand in this caliber.
However, BBs have shown a steady increase in popularity. They took two spots in 2017, one in 2016 and made no appearance in Pyramyd Air’s list of top selling airgun ammo in 2015. It’s likely that the increasing number of BB-firing, firearms replica air pistols would be responsible for this increase in BB sales.
In terms of manufacturers, the “big two” – JSB and H&N – continue to dominate the rankings, as you would expect.
In 2017, JSB again took the top two positions in Pyramyd Air’s listing. But 2017 was clearly a good year for H&N. They matched JSB with four each out of the top ten positions.
This compares to 2016, when JSB took four slots compared to two from H&N. In 2015 JSB had five out of the top ten, while H&N had two.
BB vendors Umarex and Air Venturi take one slot each in the 2017 list.
Established pellet manufacturers to fall out of Pyramyd Air’s top selling airgun ammo listing since 2015 are Beeman, Crosman, Predator and RWS. Each of these brands has held one top ten slot in the past two years.
