Umarex USA has told Hard Air Magazine that the long-awaited Umarex Gauntlet is shipping – finally!
And – to prove it – we have received two full production samples at the HAM office also. One is in .177 caliber, the other in .22 cal.
As everyone will understand, the first deliveries will be to fulfill back orders. However, Umarex USA says that Gauntlet production is ramping-up and they are expecting a large number of guns to ship during the remainder of 2017.
Obviously we will produce a comprehensive test review of this new model very soon. But first, let’s open the box and see what we have in the actual production model…
First off, the packaging is outstanding! Many manufacturers skimp on the packaging to save cost, but Umarex has clearly invested to ensure that their new air rifles reaches you in perfect condition.
This is important, because there’s nothing worse than to purchase a wonderful new air rifle, only for it to be damaged during shipping to you, with all the hassle that causes.
Gauntlet is packed in a sturdy card box, with a fully-molded polystyrene insert that protects the gun from almost any potential damage in transit. The gun itself and accessories are all further enclosed in plastic bags.
This level of packaging care is better than we’ve seen even on most guns at this price and better even that on some extremely expensive air rifles costing 2x or 3x the price of Gauntlet.
There’s a well-produced instruction manual that looks pretty comprehensive and the .177 and .22 caliber guns come complete with one 10-shot magazine. There’s also a single shot tray, should you prefer to load pellets singly. Normally this is an extra-cost item, so that’s another point of valve for Gauntlet.
There’s also a degassing tool. This enables Gauntlet to be purged of air and made safe, if desired, for maintenance or simply to change regulated HPA tanks. Again, this is an item that – if available at all – is an additional cost for other PCP air rifles.
The Umarex Gauntlet is shipping with the regulated HPA tank attached to the action. Mount a scope, fill up with air and we should be ready to go. See you at the test review!!!
