Extreme Benchrest 2018 has kicked-off today in the beautiful, hot Arizona desert. It’s the seventh year of Extreme Benchrest and it looks like it’s going to be the best yet!
The highlights today were the Field Target competition – that is American Field Target – and the Extreme Big Bore shoot.
There’s so many airgun industry people at Extreme Benchrest 2018 that it’s almost like a trade event! That’s because so many people in the airgun industry are also enthusiastic airgun shooters…
Above, the American Field Target course is almost hidden among the cacti and other desert scrub. Each firing point has a tent to provide some shade, but the temperature’s around 95 degrees F, so it’s hot even in the shade!
Below, Fredrik Axelsson of FX Airguns is shooting Field target with a customized .30 caliber FX Impact. Note the blue anodized lower to this gun. The FX team all had FX Impacts with different color lowers. They look really great!
Below, Fredrik’s son Johan shows us another of Team FX’s customized Impacts, in red, of course.
Below, we see Ted Bier from Ted’s Holdover preparing himself to shoot. But, hey Ted, you’re supposed to actually use an air rifle to compete!
Matt Dubber from YouTube’s Air Arms Hunting SA had traveled all the way from South Africa to compete in Extreme Benchrest 2018. Above we see him gaining some tips (?) from Ted, below he shoots in the American Field Target course.
And in spite of the hard, stony ground, Matt was walking around barefoot. That’s a real man for you!!!
Heading to the big bore range, competition was taking place at 300 Yards, with a range of big, powerful and – mostly – loud air rifles. Kip Perow from Airguns of Arizona was shooting his Western Bigbores Bushbuck, as you can see.
Looking downrange, it’s a loooooong way to the target!
A surprise new product that surfaced for the first time at Extreme Benchrest 2018 is the Daystsate 762. Below, Giles Barry, from YouTube’s Airgungearshow was testing out the gun. Then we see some closeups of this new big bore, bolt acton PCP air rifle.
And Extreme benchrest 2018 was joined by Dawn, from YouTube’s Airgun Girl Channel. She’s here to compete, but someone photographed her talking to Hard Air Magazine publisher Stephen Archer. No, Steve’s not joined the French Foreign Legion, he’s just protecting the back of his neck from sunburn!
There will be more news from Extreme Benchrest 2018 – as it happens – tomorrow. Stay tuned!
