Yes, it’s true! The Umarex Gauntlet will soon be shipping. And more than that, there will also be an Umarex Gauntlet 25 Caliber version – hopefully before year end.

Umarex USA asked Hard Air Magazine to assist in testing one of the Gauntlet 25 Caliber prototypes. So we’re able to bring you this exclusive scoop information…

Firstly a little background. The Gauntlet in .177 and .22 calibers uses an outstandingly-low 1,150 PSI regulated pressure. These two guns are actually identical except for the barrel, bolt and magazine. And, of course, the the caliber indication printed on the side of the breech!

The Umarex Gauntlet 25 caliber model has a number of other differences. The breech is caliber-specific as it accepts .25 caliber magazines which are “thicker” than those for .177 and .22. This is necessary to accept the (generally) longer .25 caliber pellets.

And, of course, all .25 caliber airguns need to produce a significantly higher power output than similar models in .177 and .22 calibers. The Umarex Gauntlet .25 caliber model achieves this by using a higher regulator pressure.

This regulated pressure of the prototype .25 cal model we tested is 1,900 PSI. This is clearly much higher than that of the smaller caliber Gauntlet models. However it’s still lower – so far as we know – than that used by any other regulated PCP air rifle.

The low regulated pressure of all Gauntlet models makes them easy to fill and gives a large number of consistent, regulated shots per fill.

Note that we attached the Leapers UTG 4-16 x 40AO scope and sling to Gauntlet for testing purposes. They’re not bundled with the gun, of course.

So here’s the details of a couple of tests the HAM Team ran on the Umarex Gauntlet 25 Caliber version….

First, we tested the gun with 25.39 Grain JSB King pellets. This gave us 26 consistent shots with an average of 911 FPS and a Standard Deviation of just 4.7 FPS. That’s an average Muzzle Energy of 46.8 Ft/Lbs.

You can see the resulting shot curve in the chart below. Wow!

If you’re prepared to let the Muzzle Velocity drop as far as 875 FPS, you’ll achieve 30 shots from one fill. This is a significant number of shots for a regulated .25 caliber PCP air rifle.

Then we moved on to test the Umarex Gauntlet 25 Caliber prototype with Predator GTO Alloy 16.54 Grain pellets.

As before, we achieved 26 consistent shots at an average Muzzle Velocity of 1,035 FPS. And this is in .25 Caliber!!!

This time the Standard Deviation of the 26 shots was even tighter at just 2.9 FPS. Of course, all PCPs produce less Ft/Lbs with lighter weight pellets. But the average was still a strong 39.85 Ft/Lbs across those 26 shots.

Again, if you’re prepared to push things a little, the Umarex Gauntlet 25 Caliber version achieved no less than 32 shots at a Muzzle Velocity above 1,000 FPS!!!

The chart below shows the story in more detail…

We need to stress that these test results are based on a prototype. But it clearly is a prototype that’s in an advanced stage of development.

The Umarex Gauntlet 25 Caliber is clearly going to be a solid performer with lots of shots and lots of power…
