OK, so this post is – just for once – not about airguns. But I thought many readers would enjoy seeing these photographs of the Civil War Reenactment and Encampment that took place today, July 16, 1017 at the Genesee Country Village and Museum.

This is claimed to be one of the largest Civil War reenactments in the North East.

The annual Civil War reenactment takes place at at the Genesee Country Village and Museum in rural Mumford NY about 20 miles from Rochester. The Museum is a working 19th-century historic country village with the largest and most comprehensive collection of building in New York State -and third largest in the whole USA.

There’s no less than 68 historic buildings set in an outstanding small town ambiance on more than 600 acres of land in the beautiful Upstate New York countryside.

The reenactors camp at the Genesee Country Village overnight and participate in the battle reenactments on Saturday and Sunday.

Today’s Civil War Reenactment represented a small-scale action between entrenched Confederates and an attacking Union force. Massed infantry, cavalry and artillery provide an unforgettable vision of what it must have been like to be on a nineteenth century battlefield.

In these photographs, we see the troops preparing for battle and then coming to grips on the field.

Unfortunately I know nothing about the Civil War Reenactment groups that create this great experience. But I’d like to thank them – every individual, together with their families – and the Genesee Country Village and Museum for making such an outstanding event.

As you can see from the photographs, it really took us back in time!

First the combatants prepare for battle. Then the Union troops attack. They’re met by heavy fire from the Confederate works.

But they come on several times in a failed attempt to beat their enemy.

And there’s not an airgun in sight! Nor anyone not in period costume. Enjoy…
