Pyramyd Air’s solution is the Air Venturi Tank With Stock Adapter. This provides a regulated High Pressure Air (HPA) tank, together with an adapter that allows the tank to connect to the ASP MCX or MPX. There’s also a push-on buttplate that fits on the end of the tank.
This is a simple, screw-on conversion. Just remove the standard 88/90 Gram CO2 tank (empty, of course!), screw in the adapter, then the regulated HPA tank. Push on the buttplate and you’re all set for fast-fire action!
Pyramyd Air says that the Length of Pull (LOP) of an HPA SIG SAUER MCX or MPX is “a little more” than that of the stock CO2-powered versions. Actually, it’s about 3-inches longer which is gives quite a large difference in the feel and handling of the gun. LOP of the stock gun (and firearm original) is 13-inches. It’s 16-inches with the HPA conversion.
Below we see the HPA tank compared to an 88/90 Gram CO2 tank.
The regulated HPA tank holds a fill pressure of 3,000 PSI and regulates this down to a consistent 1,100 PSI for use in the gun. As 1,100 PSI is about the maximum pressure that can be attained by CO2 in a confined space at around 95 degrees F, the HPA pressure should be compatible with these guns. The result is an HPA SIG SAUER MCX or MPX!
All this sounds good. And, of course, an HPA SIG SAUER MCX or MPX should give more consistent shooting than the same guns using the standard 88/90 Gram CO2 tanks. This is because High Pressure Air is less sensitive to temperature changes than CO2. CO2 cools rapidly when shooting fast, and that’s just what the SIG SAUER ASP MCX and MPX airguns are designed to do. But this is where theory and practice differ somewhat…

Interestingly, Pyramyd Air’s own video on this HPA SIG SAUER MCX or MPX conversion shows that muzzle velocity is NOT increased by using HPA on the MCX and MPX – as you would expect. They also show that muzzle velocity is actually somewhat LESS consistent on a shot-to-shot basis than when these airguns are CO2-powered.
As you can see from this test target we produced for the HAM review, the MCX we tested on CO2 gave an average of exactly 500 FPS – well, OK, actually 499.76 FPS and a Standard Deviation of just 7.61 FPS across 30 shots. The ambient temperature was 63 degrees F: low for a CO2-powered gun. That’s extremely consistent shooting!
With the Pyramyd HPA conversion, the same gun shooting the same SIG SAUER Match Ballistic Alloy pellets gave an muzzle velocity of 521.75 FPS and a Standard Deviation of 11.53 FPS across just 10 shots. This confirms Pyramyd Air’s findings.
So an HPA SIG SAUER MCX or MPX will give slightly higher muzzle velocity but somewhat less shot-to-shot consistency than when using CO2.
Of course, if you already have HPA charging equipment, the cost per shot is far less for air than using 88/90 Gram CO2 cartridges. Either way, the SIG SAUER MCX and MPX airguns are a hoot to shoot!

One point to bear in mind about this HPA SIG SAUER MCX or MPX conversion is that it’s not a configuration that is supported by the manufacturer. Therefore, SIG SAUER is not likely to cover warranty claims from running these airguns on High Pressure Air. Of course, there SHOULDN’T be a problem. But if you have any concerns, it’s best to check with Pyramyd Air first…
