This HAM report on airguns at the 2017 SHOT Show starts with our visit to see Daystar’s later products. Above, Darren Schollemeyer of Airguns of Arizona shows off the new Daystate Tsar air rifle. This new Field Target rifle has been been a joint development with Ataman of Russia.
Of course, Tony Belas from Daystate was on hand to show the latest products from the UK. Below, we see Tony with the Daystate Saxon limited edition PCP air rifle. One 150 of these have been manufactured and just 20 have been imported into the USA.
The Daystate Saxon is certainly one of the most exclusive airguns at the 2017 SHOT Show. It’s complemented by the beautiful custom-made Saxon-style knife – as Tony shows here.
Brocock airguns are also a product of the same group of companies as Daystate. And here, looking very pleased with himself was Giles Barry, the creator of the Airgun Gear Show YouTube Channel. Great to see you again Giles!
Meanwhile, Tony Belas had retrieved one of the new Brocock Bantam air rifles that were on display. This is a development of Brocock’s Compatto PCP air rifle, with a larger tank capacity and other enhanced features.
MTC Optics is a further part of the same group of companies and the 2017 SHOT Show marked the launch of a new Bluetooth-enabled laser rangefinder from MTC. This rangefinder is designed specifically for use with airguns. The rangefinder is pointed at the target, a button pressed and the range is downloaded into a smartphone – either iOS or Android-based.
The smartphone software allows this range to be linked to specific data on the muzzle velocity, Ballistic Coefficient, pellet type, etc to give precise, yet easy-to understand information on the ballistics of the pellet at that range for accurate scope adjustment.
Then it was off to the Beeman booth to see some new innovations in airguns at the 2017 SHOT Show at a somewhat lower price point…
Below, Beeman’s VP of Sales Jerry Ream shows us the new Beeman Chief air rifle. This is a single-shot PCP air rifle that’s clearly based on the ever-popular QB78 family, although with obvious changes and improvements from the CO2 versions.
The Beeman Chief uses a 2,000 PSI maximum fill pressure and is expected to be available in April 2017 with a MSRP of $199. At that price, it certainly represents a solid air rifle based on this long-standing design platform that dates way back to the original Crosman 160 of 1955!
And in another sign that the QB78 platform is ever-young, Beeman was showing two new CO2-powered air rifle models equipped with black synthetic stocks. This model – the AR2078AB – is available with bipod and new-pattern diopter (peep) sights. Thanks Jerry!
Finally, ringing the changes again for today’s report on airguns at the 2017 SHOT Show, here’s a view of the latest AirForce Texan SS. This combines a carbine-length barrel with an enlarged and redesigned sound suppression system.
Air Force is quoting a maximum Muzzle Energy of up to 400 Ft/Lbs for this new Texan SS model. Below, idk Ward shows off this new big bore air rifle.
