Pyramyd Air has revealed that the new Benjamin Wildfire PCP air rifle announced today is – in fact – a PCP version of the Crosman 1077. And it will sell for $150. Wow!!!

But there is one issue here. The Wildfire is advertised as a semi-automatic air rifle. But the 1077 is well-known to use a double action revolver mechanism. The 1077’s rotary clip is rotated by pressure on the trigger – the usual definition of a revolver – rather than by being operated by air blowback (or some other means) as is a semi-automatic action.
Of course, many customers already may believe that the 1077 is a semi-automatic as it fires every time the trigger is pulled. But HAM believes that this is, technically, not the case.
If the Benjamin Wildfire PCP air rifle actually uses the same action as the Crosman 1077, then it’s really a double action revolver and not a semi-automatic rifle. Of course, it may not. We’ll find out for sure at the SHOT Show next week!
