Following-on from our earlier post about the Air Venturi OmniStorm air rifle that was announced today, here’s some additional information about the OmniTune system itself.
The Air Venturi OmniStorm is a revolutionary break barrel air rifle featuring the innovative gas ram OmniPiston technology that combines easy user adjustability with traditional gas piston power. This is provided by the OmniTuner pump system.
Air Venturi says that the groundbreaking OmniPiston system delivers an exceptional, vibration free shot cycle across all power levels. Available in .177 and .22 calibers, the OmniStorm achieves the following velocities with lead pellets:
- .177: 1100 fps with 7-grain pellets (18.8 Ft/Lbs)
- .22: 850 fps with 11.9-grain pellets (19.1 Ft/Lbs)
As the Air Venturi graphic below shows, this makes the OmniStorm air rifle suitable for a wide range of target shooting, plinking and pesting uses.
The OmniTune system provides an operating pressure range of between 205 and 550 PSI. Apart from altering the Muzzle Energy, this also changes the cocking effort required between 25 and 50 Lbs
Air Venturi also adds that this allows – for example – both parents and children to utilize the same air rifle. What used to require the purchase of multiple air rifles, now only requires one.
Air Venturi also has a brief video outlining the concept.
Additional specs are as follows:
– Fiber optic sights, with adjustable rear sight
– 11mm dovetail scope rail
– 4×32 scope and mounts included
– Two-stage trigger
– 19-Inch rifled barrel
– weight under 7 Lbs
All of this sounds great. However, one thing does weigh on my mind. Air Venturi says that the OmniStorm is the only power-adjustable break barrel air rifle in the market.
Yet the Weihrauch HW90 has long been available with adjustable power capability using a separate pumping system. Hard Air Magazine published an overview of this capability in 2023. The Muzzle Velocity, Muzzle Energy and cocking effort all varied based on the amount of pressure in the gas ram.
So far as I know, the HW90 is still a current product. I’m sure that Air Venturi will have an answer for this…
