Not many of us know that Crosman supports airgun target shooting through a range of initiatives. So I thought you would be interested to know about some of them…
Although HAM readers are generally not interested in 10 Meter target shooting, this remains by far the largest organized competitive airgun discipline in the USA today. Literally thousands of youth shooters participate in clubs and high school programs associated with the JROTC, in conjunction with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).
Although it seems that disappointingly few of these 10 Meter airgun target competitors progress to “our sort of airguns”, many of them do go forward to a lifetime interest in shooting, mainly with firearms. This is why Crosman’s support – although “invisible” to most HAM readers, is actually very important for the shooting sports overall.
1. Crosman Supports Airgun Target Shooting Through Donations
For example, Crosman supports airgun target shooting by donating 12 Challenger air rifles to a variety of CMP junior events throughout the 2024 calendar year.
Below, Tom Beecher from Crosman at the CMP.
Such events include the JROTC Service Championships (both Regional and National) as well as the CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Championships. The Crosman Challenger Rifles will be presented to the overall Individual winner and overall Team in the sporter division at each competition.
In fact, the Crosman Challenger has long been the overwhelming choice for 10 Meter competitors in the “Sporter” Class of JROTC 3P (Three Position) shooting.
The three positions are kneeling, standing and prone. Yes, the range is “only” 10 meters, but don’t knock it, the bull is rextremely small. Many of these kids are really outstanding shots!
“Our partnership with the CMP makes shooting sports accessible to generations of youths, instilling the principles of firearm safety and marksmanship through air guns,” explaind Joe Brown, VP of Marketing and Product Development for Crosman.
“Through our donation of Challenger rifles at CMP events, we directly support the CMP’s mission of firearm education and safety.”
2. Challenger Armorer’s Courses
Another way Crosman supports airgun target shooting is by holding a series of “armorer’s courses” at its manufacturing facility in Bloomfield, N.Y.. Each class is instructed by a certified Challenger Assembly Technician.
These armorer’s courses cover how to keep club Challengers in top condition – from repairing bolt assemblies to replacing gauges, hammer springs, trigger adjustments and O-rings. All the stuff that’s needed to keep the guns shooting on a day-to-day basis.
To provide top-quality instruction, Crosman takes a maximum of three participants in each course and instruction takes place alongside the main assembly line for these guns. The courses are arranged on an “as required” basis, again through the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
3. Challenger Delayed Payment Plan
Crosman also works with the CMP to provide a Challenger Delayed Payment Program.
Through this program, CMP-affiliated schools, junior clubs, teams and camps may purchase Challengers but distribute payments over a two-year span. This can be a big help with club budgets!
The Civilian Marksmanship Program is a federally chartered 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. It is dedicated to firearm safety and marksmanship training and to the promotion of marksmanship competition for citizens of the United States.
