Thanks to a generous grant from the Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, the Student Air Rifle Program (SAR) is offering equipment grants to the first twenty new Missouri schools to implement SAR curriculum during the 2016/2017 school year.

“We are delighted to partner with SAR to facilitate a safe and fun introduction to the lifetime sport of target shooting to students in grades 4 through 12,” noted said Scott Wanetka, vice president of Cabela’s Outdoor Fund. “This program will offer great opportunities to a number of schools and young outdoor enthusiasts across the state.”

“During our feasibility surveys we learned the number one barrier for implementing programming and curriculum is cost and funding,” mentioned Jan Morris with SAR. “We are committed to helping schools find creative ways to fund Student Air Rifle Program equipment so more students participate in the lifetime and positively impactful sport of recreational target shooting.”

A total of $30,000 has been dedicated for this Missouri promotion. $1,500 grants are available to twenty new schools who plan to implement Student Air Rifle Program curriculum during the 2016/2017 school year. The grant money will offset the cost of the SAR equipment kit by approximately 50%.

Interested Missouri schools can learn how to get SAR started and apply to be considered for the grant by visiting http://www.studentairrifleprogram.org/getting-started. Grant applications must be received by Tuesday, November 15, 2016.

The Student Air Rifle Program, developed by the Missouri Youth Sport Shooting Alliance (MYSSA), is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. SAR uses school aligned units of study, teacher training, universal whistle commands, positive language, and standardized equipment to facilitate an introduction to the lifetime sport of target shooting to school-aged youth in grades 4 through 12.

Cabela’s Outdoor Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to efforts that promote and protect hunting, shooting sports, trapping, fishing, camping and conservation. This fund is possible through donations from generous Cabela’s customers who choose to “round up” their purchases to the nearest dollar at Cabela’s stores. The Cabela’s Outdoor Fund contributes to other like-minded organizations in communities across the country working to make the great outdoors even better.
