Umarex has announced the official ammo for the Primal 20 PCP air shotgun. It’s 20 Gauge sabot slugs. In fact, they’re special 395-Grain 20 gauge slugs that are fitted with a plastic “wad” that acts as the seal within the barrel.
The combination of this unique slug and the Invector choke installed in the Primal’s barrel are rifled to insure excellent accuracy downrange, Umarex USA tells HAM. These Primal 20 saboted slugs are the only ammunition that’s compatible with the airgun.
The Primal was launched at the 2022 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. The 2 -shot Primal 20 is equipped with a 24 cubic inch onboard air tank that pressurizes to a maximum of 4,000 PSI. It uses a sliding 2-shot magazine that’s similar to that of the Umarex Hammer. The company has also announced that spare mags for the Primal 20 will be available, too.
Primal 20 specs call for these 395-grain pointed slugs to leave the muzzle at 700 FPS. That’s around 430 Ft/Lbs of energy.
20 Gauge is .615 caliber. So these are BIG slugs!
They also come at a big price. 20 Gauge sabot slugs for the Primal 20 are being sold by Umarex in packs of 10 at $45.99. That’s $4.60 per round, although the price would (could?) come down to $3.45 a round if Pyramyd Air offers its “buy 4, get one free” program with these slugs.
By contrast, the spare 2-round magazine for the Primal 20 costs just $39.99.
