Registration is now open for the 2022 Carolina Classic FT Grand Prix. HAM specialist piston rifle tester Eric Brewer attended last year and had a great time! You can read his report here.

The Carolina Classic is organized by the Tar Heel Airgun Club. It’s a three-day competition for both rifle and pistol that’s run according to AAFTA rules.

The 2022 dates are May 13, 14 and 15. The location is 734 Jack Swamp Road, Pleasant Hill, NC 27866. The course has a challenging mixture of woods and open field lanes to test every competitor’s abilities!

Apart from organizing a great shooting competition, the Tar Heel folks are also doing something very unusual. They’re asking shooters what disciplines they would like to have added to the Carolina Classic in future – together with other suggestions.

Some of these ideas are Extreme Field Target (or should I say Xtreme Field Target?), Speed Silhouette, Benchrest and NRL-style shooting. The aim is to make future matches more interesting and attract additional shooters. That sounds like a worthy cause!

Here’s the progress so far. It looks like Extreme Field Target (XFT) has a big lead in popularity at this point…

If you’re not familiar with XFT, check out HAM’s backgrounder in this two-part story.

The 2022 Carolina Classic FT Grand Prix match fee is $90.00. That includes Lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. For those wanting to take part in the optional Pistol Match, it’s an extra $20. Extra Guest Lunches are $10 each and extra T-shirts are $15.

There’s a full schedule on the THAC site at http://www.thagc.com/carolina-classic-schedule. To register, just go to this page http://www.thagc.com/2022-carolina-classic

If you’re flying-in to attend the Grand Prix, the closest airports are Richmond and Raleigh-Durham. You could also combine some sightseeing into your trip. Colonial Williamsburg, Chesapeake VA and historic Halifax are all in the area and have lots of historical interest to view.

It’s going to be a great shoot – again!
