Exclusive! Hard Air Magazine can reveal that there will soon be a new version of a long-time favorite – the Beeman QB78 Synthetic stock air rifle.

The Beeman QB78 Synthetic is a development of the bolt action CO2-powered air rifle that’s popular with many plinkers and tinkerers. The QB78 is rather like a Ruger 10/22 of the airgun world. It’s a lightweight, inexpensive model that’s highly customizable and enjoyed by many shooters for its simplicity and accuracy.

Of course, for those with very long memories, the Beeman QB78 air rifle is a direct descendant of the Crosman 160 that was originally introduced way back in 1955! The QB78 itself has been manufactured since the 1990s. As with some firearms, some classic airguns have very long lives – like the Mauser 98 bolt action rifle and 1911 semi-auto pistol.

The new Beeman QB78 Synthetic stock air rifle has the product code QB78S. This distinguishes it from the wood-stocked versions that have sold for many years and are currently experiencing a renaissance in popularity in the USA.

The black synthetic stock has a thumbhole configuration and includes a short Weaver/Picatinny rail under the forend for mounting lasers, lamps and the like.

All QB78 versions use 2 x 12 Gram CO2 cartridges at one time. This provides about 50 strong shots before the gas starts to run down. Muzzle velocity is specified as 650 fps in .177 caliber and 500 fps in .22 cal, with lead pellets. But like all CO2-powered airguns, the Beeman QB78 Synthetic shoots faster in warm weather – above 65 degrees F – and slower in cooler temperatures.

The single-stage trigger is setscrew-adjustable for pull weight, sear engagement and overtravel. There’s a manual safety for the bolt-operated, single shot action.

Simple iron sights are fitted to the QB78S, but most owners will choose to mount a scope to the dovetail rails machined into the breech.

The Beeman QB78 Synthetic stock air rifle is expected to become available around year end 2016. Price is anticipated to be similar to that of the wood stock version.
