A beautiful, new FX Crown Continuum air rifle recently arrived at the HAM offices for review. In .22 caliber, it has the gorgeous Yellowjacket laminated stock which HAM Publisher Stephen Archer thinks looks just fantastic!
The Crown Continuum bundles two barrel/shroud assemblies in the one product. Attached to the gun, above, we have the 380 mm barrel – that’s 14.9 Inches ling. The longer barrel is 700 mm in length: 27.56 Inches.
FX Airguns explains that the shorter barrel is ideal for hunting, or in situations where maneuverability is a big requirement. The long barrel is specifically intended for long-range shooting.
As is normal with FX air rifles, the Crown Continuum is supplied in a high-quality Negrini case. This offers outstanding protection, together with cutouts for the long barrel, a magazine, silencer and a male quick disconnect.
The Crown Continuum improves on the barrel/breech interface of earlier Crowns. There’s no less than five setscrews to secure the barrel in place. One is on top of the breech, with two each side. You’ll need a 3 mm Allen wrench for the side setscrews and a 4 mm one for the top.
You will need to remove the scope to change barrels, but this is not a hardship with the Picatinny mounting system.
If you want to source additional caliber barrels, you’ll need to change the bolt also. Again, this is easy to do with the aid of a 2.5 mm Allen wrench.
The Crown Continuum also includes the new “Side-shot style” magazine which HAM covered recently.
There’s also now a Picatinny rail on top of the breech for scope mounting.
Underneath, there’s gauges for tank pressure and regulator pressure. That’s a cover for the fill port between them.
Raising the adjustable cheek piece – grab that 4 mm Allen wrench again – allows for an outstanding cheek weld. This can also be combined with vertical adjustment to the rubber butt plate (another use for the 4 mm Allen wrench).
The result is extremely comfortable to shoot with the “shorty” barrel.
Of course, there’s much more to the Continuum, including the poser and regulator adjustment capability. Based on our previous testing of the FX Crown in .177 caliber, we’re anticipating an outstanding trigger, sidelever action, accuracy and power.
