The Stormrider is a popular PCP air rifle with a strong following. So let’s take a look at Diana Stormrider scope mounting – including a couple of tips and tricks that will make this easier for you to do…
But before we even start on Diana Stormrider scope mounting, there’s the matter of which scope to choose! The Stormrider is a small, light PCP air rifle, so it just makes sens to fit a small, light riflescope to it.
And when small, light airgun scopes are mentioned, the Leapers UTG Bugbuster immediately springs to mind! We chose to mount a UTG Bugbuster 3-12 x 32 scope to our Stormrider.
First things first – make sure that it’s the model that is bundled with airgun rings, or that you have a pair handy. Weaver/Picatinny rings are not going to fit!
The Bugbuster balances well on the Stormrider, so it looks as if you are home and dry. But not quite…
As we can see from the photograph above, if we want to fit the sunshade to the Bugbuster, it’s not going to work. The rear sight is in the way.
Fortunately, it’s easy to remove. First remove the elevation adjustment screw in the top leaf of the sight.
After the screw is removed, you’ll see a spring. Don’t loose that if you think you may ever want to re-install the rear sight!
The rear sight is quite a tight fit in the dovetails of the barrel band. You’ll probably need to carefully drive the rear sight forward off of the barrel band with a non-marring brass punch or similar tool.
Once the rear sight has been driven off, it’s obvious why the screw needed to be removed first!
Now we can fit the sun shade to out UTG Bugbuster with no problems…
However, once you try to install a magazine into the breech, you’ll likely find that the mag will contact the scope and not fit correctly into place.
Now, you’ll need to loosen-off the scope ring screws and move the scope back as far as possible. This will give just a small amount of clearance, as we can see here. But that’s all you need!
Now tighten-up the scope ring screws and sight-in the Bugbuster.
Diana Stormrider scope mounting is a lot faster if you have these tips in mind before starting the project!
