Ruger 10/22 Air Rifle Scope Mounting

Fitting a Ruger 10/22 air rifle scope is easy. It’s just the same as with the firearm original.

As this is a small, light airgun, it was obvious that a Leapers UTG Bugbuster scope would be an ideal companion. And as Leapers also offers mounting rails for the 10/22, we also decided to use one of these.

Just like the firearm, the 10/22 air rifle is not fitted with scope mounting rails. This means that an accessory scope rail has to be fitted.

However – again like the firearm original – the 10/22 air rifle has four tapped screw holes in the top of the receiver so that dedicated scope mounts can be screwed into place.

Leapers has several products for Ruger 10/22 air rifle scope mounting. We used the new, US-made UTG Pro version. This gives 11 Picatinny rail slots and screws directly onto the gun’s receiver.

(There’s also a similar, lower-cost version available, the MNT-22TOWL that is available from Pyramyd Air, for example).

Attaching the scope mounting rail was very easy using four of the five screws supplied. Leapers always includes a spare screw with their products, just in case. That’s a very good policy for the sometimes fat-fingered among us!

The rail is well-finished in black powder coat. It matches the finish of the airgun receiver very well. It fits perfectly onto the received, showing how well the airgun duplicates the exact look of the original 10/22 firearm.

We used the medium height Weaver/Picatinny rings that were bundled with the Bugbuster scope. Again, these fitted well and were positioned to give the correct eye relief for use.

The Leapers UTG Bugbuster and rail combination makes a great-looking, compact and light scope package for the Ruger 10/22 air rifle. It also balances well in use and doesn’t break the bank on price!

We fitted a 3-9X Bugbuster scope that we happened to have here in the HAM offices. Any of the other UTG Bugbuster versions would work equally well.
