HAM readers first saw the new Ruger 10/22 air rifle back in January in our report from the SHOT show. But now it’s shipping and we’re taking a first look at this new airgun.
First, let’s look at the packaging. Why? Because it’s an important part of the overall product!
As many customers will buy the Ruger 10/22 air rifle online, it’s important to understand that the manufacturer has invested cost and effort into providing the appropriate protection for your new purchase when it’s in the “careful” hands of the shipping company.
Umarex USA is very clear about the specifications for the 10/22 air rifle. They even print the trigger pull weight on the box, so that owners will understand the implication of firing double action.
The airgun 10/22 is extremely similar in size and appearance to the firearm. As you would expect, provision is made in the stock for attaching swing swivels…
… we attached a SKS-style sling with regular “Uncle Mike’s” swivels. A perfect solution fitted in just a few seconds!
The open sights are also very similar to that of the powder-burning version. There’s a flip-up rear sight, together with a fixed front sight. No fiber optics here!
The breech of the Ruger 10/22 air rifle is fitted with tapped holes for fixing standard 10/22 sight bases. This allows a scope to be fitted for improved accuracy.
The removable magazine allows for easy loading with .177 caliber pellets.
It’s then pushed into place in the underside of the stock, just as you would expect.
The 10/22 air rifle uses two, 12 gram CO2 cartridges. These are loaded back-to-back into the buttstock. The removable buttpad doubles as a tool to position and puncture these CO2 cartridges.
This CO2 cartridge loading system is very similar to that used in the Umarex Legends Cowboy Rifle. Indeed, it looks like it uses some of the same parts. This is the Cowboy, below…
HAM will be undertaking a comprehensive review of the 10/22 air rifle in the near future. Stay tuned!
