HAM readers first saw a version of the new FX Crown Continuum in our reporting from the 2019 IWA OutdoorClassics show.
The Continuum combines two barrel length extremes into one versatile package by being supplied as standard with two barrels:
700mm STX – for all competition and bench shooters
380mm STX – for hunting and compact enthusiast shooters
Both barrels feature the new FX Superlight STX barrels. This uses a newly engineered and imagined barrel housing to hold the STX liner, says the company.
The Superlight STX liner is no longer housed in a long steel tube, but rather is now placed in a very sturdy barrel attachment section that results in a more rigid barrel. The strength this design imparts to the barrel is part of the reason the Crown can handle a 700mm barrel, explains FX.
The shroud on the Superlight STX barrel is a fixed shroud with an included FX Moderator (1/2-Inch UNF).
The Superlight STX barrels still retain the ability to change liners for those wanting to try different projectiles and twist rates. Much like the standard STX barrel, you can change liners within the caliber of the barrel you have, but if you want to change calibers, you will need a separate barrel.
Also note that these new Superlight STX barrels port diameters are made to the same specifications of the standard Crown action, so they are interchangeable, and the Crown Continuum can use standard STX barrels.
The FX Crown Continuum is available in .22 and .25 calibers only. However, the full range of Crown Continuum is available: Synthetic, Walnut, and all current Crown Laminate versions including the brand new Yellowjacket Laminate.
We saw the FX Crown Continuum again at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge. Giles was shooting a special model of the Continuum in .30 caliber with the Yellowjacket stock.
The action of the Crown also received an upgrade. The previous dovetail scope rail has been replaced with an integrated Picatinny rail.
To further ensure that the barrel is rigid, this new action has four set screws to secure the barrel in place (two screws coming in at an angle on either side of the action).
This new breech design also allows the scope to remain attached when switching out barrels. Again, this was first seen at IWA and reported in HAM. You can find more information on the Crown in the FX Airguns website.
