Among the highlights of the Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge were two unusual competitions. These were the RMAC 2019 Speed Challenge and the Precision Marksman Challenge.
Both gave a ton of enjoyment to both competitors and spectators!
The RMAC 2019 Speed Challenge required competitors to shoot at a wide range of reactive targets at different ranges. One of the highlights of the whole event was a shoot-out for a place in the Speed Challenge Finals between Ted Bier and Tom Adams. That’s them above. Tom won an incredibly close contest!

Both the RMAC 2019 Speed Challenge and the Precision Marksman Challenge started with the competitors being instructed on the course of fire. This was explained clearly and carefully so that everyone understood!
We looked saw some of the Speed targets in an earlier post, but here’s another look…
Another stage of the RMAC 2019 Speed Challenge had the competitors firing at a target, then rushing back to hit a bell. Then they rushed back again to fire. Multiple times…
This led to some unusual firing positions, as Jon from FX Airguns demonstrates below. Airgun Nation’s Michael Wendt is scoring at left.
The other novel competition was the Precision Marksman Challenge. Again this required competitors to shoot from multiple different positions, including this stage: the Barricade.
Here we see Thayne Simmons (nearest us) and Alex Hatfield firing through at the Barricade positions.
In this stage, each shooter has just 90 seconds to fire 2 shots at each of five animal targets. Total 10 shots, but from multiple different firing positions.
Each animal target has to be engaged from a specific port in the barricade. Oh, and by the way, the targets are at ranges from 35 to 95 Yards from the shooter. Again, this is a real test of skill for the shooter and fun to watch for the audience!
